Earth Day seemed an appropriate day to meet for our second Sketching Edmonds event. The Edmonds Marina was a perfect setting. I was so pleased to see Delores Haugland join in. As we set up to focus in on a similar area of the pier with boats all around, I couldn't help but admire her confidence and style in drawing the scene.
I've admired her paintings for years, and often see her work showing across the street from ARTspot at Gallery North. This gallery has maintained a presence in Edmonds since 1961, showing work of local artists' paintings as well as sculpture, pottery, woodwork, glass and jewelry. Delores was a featured artist there during April.
It has been my hope to share some of the "plein air" sketches that are created by other artists in the group. This pen sketch with watercolor is a great example of the delightful scenes all around us in our beautiful neck of the woods. Celebrating Earth Day in the sun and fresh air cheered us all.
I would like to invite any interested artists to our next "Sketching Edmonds" event Saturday May 22, Noon-1:30. We will meet near the fountain at 5th and Main, and spread out to enjoy capturing views of the Saturday Garden Market, or historic buildings in the immediate area. All are welcome. The monthly event is free, open to all. It is non-directed. Artists should bring their own art supplies and dress appropriately for the weather.
