While traveling, we want to remember the places we experience better. Sketching helps create memories because of the process of observation and recording. This class will explore techniques for conveying your observations into quick, loose, expressive sketches which convey the essence of places you are visiting.

Your Workshop starts at ARTspot. David will give a short overview before your group heads out to sketch! Workshop outdoor location will be within walking distance of ARTspot. Exact location TBD. David will select where we draw based on weather, etc.
Students receive a 10% discount on ARTspot purchases from the day of registration to workshop end of day. Excludes clearance items and other workshops. Cannot be combined with other discounts.
Instructor Bio
David Chamness is a licensed commercial architect and active member of Seattle Urban Sketchers since 2012. He has been sketching / watercolor painting for the last 40-plus years around Washington State and on his travels abroad. He was a guest artist at Sketcher Fest Edmonds 2023 & 2024 and was an instructor for the Usk Seattle 10 x 10 series. David is a native of Washington and he lives in the Shoreline. He also is a passionate soccer fan and supports local team Seattle Sounders FC, while also following Arsenal FC / VfB Stuttgart from afar.

Paper Media: Any paper that can take watercolors i.e. Watercolor paper 130 lb. or sketchbook
Pen with waterproof ink: Favorites are Pigma Micron (Size 08) or Staedtler Lumocolor (Size F) (or Fountain Pen with waterproof ink)
Pencil
Watercolor Brush
Watercolor Palette: (with a limited variety of colors) (Suggested palette); Cerulean Blue; Cadmium Yellow; Sepia or Raw Umber; Chinese White; Rose Madder; Prussian Blue; Yellow Ochre; Hookers Green
Other Optional Supplies
-Blue Tape (to tape down paper)
11” X 17” Foam Core or Gator Board (surface to tape your paper onto)
Water Bottle and Cup
Paper Towels (couple of sheets or old cotton cloth for wiping brushes)
