Edmonds Sketchers met at City Park on June 19. We lucked out again with another beautiful spring day. It appeared that everyone at Edmonds City Park was enjoying a feeling of freedom. It was only fitting, as this day was also Junteenth, often observed as a celebration of African-American culture, a commemoration of the Emancipation Proclamation, and this year for the first time as a national holiday.
We felt free to be outside without our masks as well. While America is still in mourning of so many lives lost to the Covid 19 pandemic, it is also important to appreciate our good fortune to be able to enjoy each other's company and our good health. I set my sights on the symbol of our collective freedom and began sketching the beautiful flag flying overhead.
Amidst the sounds of birthday parties and family gatherings, nearly 20 artists captured images of a sunny day in the park. Thank you to everyone who turned out.
I'd love to invite anyone who is interested in sketching with us at our next meet-up: July 11th at Kruckeberg Gardens in Shoreline. Noon-1:30. Free, but bring your own art supplies. All are welcome.
