1st Sketch for the Edmonds Beacon

I grabbed a sunbreak this week and enjoyed a walk on our beachfront near the ferry dock. “Beach Launch” by Robert Cooke is one of my favorite Edmonds sculptures and struck me as a great subject for an outdoor sketch. I've often stopped here, but taking the time to draw made me notice the captain of the ship has a hammer in his hand, as he has just assembled the mast. Little brother is wearing scuba fins and is probably annoying his sister. It struck me that she doesn't seem to be enjoying the sailing adventure as much as her brothers.

As I was sketching, a little tyke ran ahead of his mom to play on the sculpture. Decked out in a floppy sun hat and rubber boots, he fit right in to the scene. I wish I could have drawn fast enough to add him in!

This sketch will be featured in the Edmonds Beacon February 2nd, 2021 Issue.
