Julia Giordano is a paper collage artist living in Edmonds, WA. She discovered the joys of working with hand-painted paper collage several years ago and has been at it ever since. A lifelong crafter, she has also studied photography, botany, ornithology, and landscape architecture. These experiences all inform her collage work, from the selection of subject matter to composition and editing choices. Julia is also inspired by children’s illustration, scientific and educational illustration, and the endless wonders of the natural world.
Julia uses hand-painted papers to create bright and lively depictions of plants and animals. She begins each original collage by painting colors and textures onto newsprint paper using acrylic paints. Once she is satisfied with the colors and the sheets have dried, she grabs her scissors and starts to cut. After much snipping and arranging, Julia settles on a final composition and begins the gluing down process. Once complete, Julia shares her work as original collages, giclee prints and greeting cards. Her prints and cards are available at ShoreLake Arts Gallery in Lake Forest Park and on her Etsy site, Julia Giordano Shop.
