CLASS DESCRIPTION: Painting, like any good conversation, is as much about listening as it is about saying. What do the marks you make tell you about your unique artistic voice? Stir up a spirited interaction with colors and shapes. Discover the essential lines and gestures of your style, and then develop them into a personal visual vocabulary.
We'll work predominantly with acrylic colors. Other media, such as water-soluble graphite crayon or "Inktense" pencils, may be incorporated too.
This class is appropriate for beginners, and will also be relevant to experienced artists that want exercise their "beginner mind".
Day One: Guided experimentation with mark-making and patterning. Learn to see the shapes and textures of your own "visual voice". We'll provoke dialog between abstraction and representation. We'll find abstract patterns and movements in plain view, and we'll coax recognizable forms from abstract elements.
Day Two: Infusing Day One's discoveries into an acrylic painting. Bring the essential lines and gestures of your unique style to a new work, or to an older one that needs a new lease on life. Stir up a conversation!
