LOCATION:  Chelan Fire Station, 2nd Floor  Note: this painting day is held off site from ARTspot: Lake Chelan is about a 3 hour drive east of Edmonds.

DESCRIPTION: Bring your acrylic painting kit out to sunny Lake Chelan this summer. Enjoy a fun day creating a contemporary painting with layering techniques. We will do some collage, texturing and washes.... and I will bring a basket of super cool art supplies for you to play with. then a grande finale of Encaustics: using melted beeswax! 

    Note: this painting day is held off site from ARTspot: Lake Chelan is about a 3 hour drive east of Edmonds. I will supply all encautic materials and some specialty items for all to use, like resin paints, mica powders, alcohol inks and stencils for you to try and buy if you love them.. I will also bring a sampling of supports and art supplies from ARTspot for purchase. Let us know if there is anything in particular you need me to bring!


SUPPLY LIST:  You can purchase all your quality art supplies at ARTspot. Registered students receive a 10% discount on all their art supplies during the course. All items on this list are available at ARTspot.

    I ENCOURAGE experimentation, so a variety of supplies is welcome. I strongly encourage you to use artist quality paints - I use Golden paints as the pigments are pure and bright.

  •  You can use a rectangular Tupperware type container with lid or can purchase a sealing palette for acrylics to keep paints from drying out. We recommend the Artelier Airtight Peel-Off Palette.


  • 11x14 up to 16x20 panel, birch cradle board or canvas board. Need rigid surface. 

Assortment of Acrylic Paints -   required
Here is the combination I use (Golden Acrylic Tube colors). You can use as a guide. Any color that appeals to you personally is a good color for you!
Titanium White                                                    Cadmium Yellow light
Cadmium Yellow Medium                                    Cadmium Red Light
Primary Magenta or Alizarin Crimson                        Cerulean Blue or Pthalo Blue
Ultramarine Blue                                                    Burnt Umber
Yellow Ochre or Raw Sienna                                    Black - optional
A 6, 8, or 12 tube set – either would work well. Get the artist grade, not the student grade. There is a difference!


Optional Additions (some of my favorites):
Buff or Unbleached White, Burnt Sienna, Dioxazine Purple, Green Gold, Quinacridone Burnt Orange…  Any color that inspires you is a good color!

Tracy will bring an assortment of the following to try out and purchase during the workshop once you see what it is!

  • One 1 oz Fluid acrylic paint color of your choice – optional if you want to try
  • One Pebeo fantasy paint color of your choice – optional if you want to try
  •  One Jacquard Mica Powder color of your choice – optional if you want to try
  • Gel medium - required

Use this to collage, or stretch out the coverage of your paints.  Could try an Acrylic Heavy Gel Medium – glossy 8 Oz OR two 4 oz – one regular gel and one heavy gel. 

  • Molding paste, optional if you want to add stencil texture effects.
  • Variety of ACRYLIC Bristol Brushes

Example: #2 Round, #2-6 Flat, #8 Filbert, #12 Flat or (Plus bring any brushes you want to experiment with)

  • One flat sided metal palette knife

Tracy will supply all the materials needed for encaustics, stencils and a variety of mixed media products for you to try and buy if desired.

collage materials, ephemera, etc. Especially anything that incorporates your personality...  journal page or letter, photo, favorite poem, sketches.  paintings on canvas or watercolor paper. Interesting papers. Items you could embed in painting that have something to do with an interest area of yours.
